Frequently Asked Questions
What is Counseling? Isn’t it only for the mentally ill?
The American Counseling Association defines counseling as “…a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals.” Counseling can benefit anyone who wants to delve into personal exploration and growth, face a pile-up of life problems, or get ahead of potential issues. The professional relationship allows for a genuine, warm, non-judgmental setting where clients can process thoughts, feelings, and situations and receive unbiased feedback. It is within this therapeutic alliance that clients begin to feel more secure and able to face whatever life has to offer.
How much does it cost?
Rates range from $125 - $150 per hour and can be paid with cash, check, or credit card. In certain instances, a sliding scale fee or discount may be available. Please talk to your therapist about this to see if you qualify.
Do you accept my insurance?
I do not currently accept insurance for several reasons. I can provide you with a receipt that you may present to your insurance carrier for possible reimbursement or application toward your deductible for out-of-network benefits. However, there is no guarantee and payment is due at the time of your appointment.
How do I make an appointment?
You can call me directly at 214-945-4515 or you can request an appointment by clicking here. I may have times available that are not readily visible on my calendar, so if you don’t see something that works for you, just contact me and we will see what we can work out. Please leave a message on my confidential voicemail if necessary and I will get back to you as soon as possible
How long are sessions? How long will I be in therapy?
Sessions usually last around 50 minutes. Most often, you will meet with your therapist weekly or every other week. The length of therapy varies greatly depending on many factors including, presenting issues and your goals.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
At your first appointment, we will meet for a “get to know you” session. During this time, we will discuss the reasons you have decided to reach out for counseling and your goals. I will answer any questions and explain what you should expect from therapy. Together we will plan how to meet your goals. Please be sure to complete all your paperwork prior to your first session as we will go over it in detail.
